The Mastermind of A Three-Year-Old

Egg nog is a favorite treat at our house during the holidays.  We have rules pertaining to it's consumption, though.  The boys have to earn it (with simple, easy things), and when they do, we dilute it with milk.  They don't like that we dilute it, but they agree that it's better than no eggnog!

One day, one of the boys, sneaked into the fridge, found the eggnog, and poured himself a glass.  I found the cup, half full, with evidence of some being drunk, sitting on one of the shelves in the fridge when I started making dinner that night.  I just let it go, because things were a bit chaotic at the moment, and that was the least significant thing going on.  After the kids were in bed that night, I decided I wanted to catch whoever the eggnog bandit was, so I drank all but a couple swallows (I know, I'm terrible!), in hopes that whoever poured the eggnog would tell on himself the next day.  Well, neither of the boys mentioned anything about it all day long.  In fact, when getting things out for that nights dinner, I noticed that the cup had been refilled!!  Hmmm!  So, I repeated my drinking of the eggnog that night, and once again, the next day, the cup was refilled!  I was so surprised that neither boy raised a stink about someone drinking their eggnog!  Anyway, this same cycle repeated itself for about 3-4 days!!  I decided this cycle had gone on long enough, so I finally drank it ALL GONE and put the cup in the sink (left it there in plain sight on purpose).  And I waited!  Finally, a couple hours later, JOSEPH was getting a drink of water, and I hear him exclaim, "Hey, who drank that, and put my......"  HE DELIBERATELY STOPPED HIMSELF!!  Having heard this (from the other room), I spoke up.  "Joseph, what did you say?"  I wanted to hear it again.  He responded with, "Oh, nothing!"  Mm Hm!

I have to admit that I am a bit surprised that my 3 year old has the cognitive ability and self discipline to do this type of thing.

*** I just found this fabulous story saved in my drafts.  It's such a gem, I just had to share it, even though it's a few years old.  Joseph is now 7(!) and is our little prankster.
